Washing pots and watching burners takes a toll on my eternal energy deficit. There are many days when I simply can't cook for myself. This thing lets me avoid eating out. It saves me enough energy that I can prep my food and then rest while it cooks. The pot insert is easy for me to clean, just a SOS pad with light pressure and it's glowing like new. It also de-glazes really well, so even if you crust some stuff on while sauteeing, a bit of water and light scraping will save a lot of labor.I love it. It makes a huge batch of soup or stew, plenty to eat for a couple of days and then freeze for later. I'll never go hungry due to exhaustion agai—well I probably will, but thanks to this appliance it won't be nearly so often. If you have mobility impairments there are a few things you should know:- The unit is very heavy. If you lack upper body strength or stability, be sure to put it someplace where you won't have to move it all the time.- The base does not seem to get hot on the outside. You can put it on a variety of surfaces--but it also comes with a cooling plate for the air fryer lid. If you are worried about the unit burning the *only* surface you can reach (lol) you can just rest it on that.- The lid is a bit finicky to get on at first, especially if you have wrist or thumb problems. There is a handy chime to let you know it is fitted securely. Once you learn the "sweet spot", you can just lower it on and then it twists pretty easy (I can lock it with two fingers now).Definitely a good replacement for my traditional pressure cooker. It's quite a bit larger than my mind had estimated and the lid you're not using takes up a large footprint of area. The companion app in general doesn't seem to grasp that this item exists and struggles to be relevant. I'd say it's a buy below 200$ as with the entirety of bells/whistles it lacks the wi-fi usability of it's cousins. Thoughts on improvement which may guide your decision:If the lids fit into one another, as in stacked for usage, or simply stacked it would make storage better. Otherwise, make sure you have space for two of these, so that you aren't short. I don't see why the pressure cooker lid can't be more disc-shaped and act as the stand for the air-fry lid.The cord has an awkward storage method and would be better suited if the prong housing bent at 90° so that while in operation it was more flush, especially, since it seems the major diameter is at the same height of many countertop outlets. Basically, this configuration means you need about 3-4 inches (about 100cm) more countertop length from the wall.Additionally, the operation instructions do no make it clear that there is a pre-heat phase with the air fryer and then it will ask you to add food which can lead to an over cook.All-in-all probably not good for an apartment, or someone who doesn't just wants one or the other function, an avid cook who leans in to snobbery is the ideal candidate. So far, I have only used this in place of my old rice cooker that did a great job for many years. I have had my eye on many rice cookers over the years and instant pot is always near the top of my wish list. It worked out great for me that I had an opportunity to get this through the vine program the same week that my old rice cooker's non stick coating began peeling off and I couldn't find another. With this rice cooker, I won't have to worry about that due to the stainless steel pot it uses.I did have to adjust my sushi rice-to-water ratio because this (and maybe all) instant pots don't steam off as much water due to the seal they create, so where I used to do around 1 1/3 cup water to each cup of rice, it seems that a 1:1 ratio works better in this machine.I haven't had the opportunity to try any of the more complex instant pot recipes yet, but they all look very tasty and I hope to find some time to try them out. When I do, if there's any issues, I'll return and update my review.First, it’s important to note I am a long time crockpot user and was hesitant to spend the money on an instant pot that I felt I would not get much use out of. As a stay at home mom, I love the convenience of “dump and go” crockpot meals or a simple one-pot meal I can throw together in my Dutch oven. Many of the instant pot recipes I found on Pinterest were no where near instant after prep, pressurizing, and de-pressurizing time were included. But when we made the decision to start homeschooling, I decided to take the plunge; this model just so happened to come up for sale on Prime Days, so we grabbed one up. Since then, it is safe to say I am an Instant Pot convert! Specifically, these are the things I love:Sauté function - this feature easily removes much of the clean-up involved with other instant pots by converting many meals to one-pot. I love having less dishes! It gets hot enough to cook the things I need it to cook in a timely fashion AND helps speed the process of the heating & pressurizing step that adds inconvenient time to my prep.Versatility - with the instant pot and air fryer, we received a “multi-use metal rack” that has saved the day with Sunday pot roasts and on Thanksgiving! It easily works as a trivet, which adds to the number of delicious meals this thing can cook for you! We have made everything from soup to Thanksgiving Turkey to plain old white rice. Everything has turned out delicious. (Our Turkey was cooked in 30 minutes!)Safety features - I appreciate the convenience and added security of the rotate-to-lock lid, as well as the way it is designed. While the air fryer lid comes with a special platform to keep the lid on when not in use and when hot, the traditional lid was built with pegs to insert into the “handles” of the pot. It’s more convenient than any other old-school lid or pot I’ve used AND it keeps my kids safe from the extremely hot object.Things that kept me from giving 5 stars:Seal ring - the seal will hold the scent of most everything you cook, which turns into more of an odor after a week. That being said, there are relatively simple fixes to this, and I understand that the design/material may have made it impossible to avoid. If you don’t mind taking the time after washing the seal to scrub with a baking soda paste or soak in vinegar, then the odor is not a problem. It is, however, inconvenient to have to do this, as you wash, soak or scrub, and wash again.Cooking guide - as with any new product, there is some trial and error to be expected. I do, however, feel their helpful cooking guide could be updated to reflect the tried-and-true results of users everywhere. We have found that our best bet for getting the best results the first time is going to places like Pinterest, where users have taken the time to test and remake different foods enough times to know what worked for them. It’s usually not far off from the guide, but I do think the consistency of Pinterest versus “professionals” is worth a new update to the guide.“Instant” - let’s be real, no meal is instant except perhaps MREs. If that’s what you’re expecting from this device, I think you’ll be waiting a while. But “much much faster than any other cooking utensil” just doesn’t have the same ring to it, now does it? That said, a turkey that would normally take all day to cook took just over an hour altogether (this includes our prep, pressurizing/warming the instant pot, cook time - which was 30 minutes - and the natural release) and it was cooked perfectly. Our soups usually take about 30 minutes altogether (again, including all the above steps) versus more than an hour on the stovetop.Storage - the size we got and the air fryer lid take up SO MUCH SPACE. It’s not much less than the space it would have taken up with two separate devices, but with the sale price we decided to take the plunge. I get it, it’s not really anything that can be avoided, but perhaps some simple design changes would allow for more efficient storage? Who knows. Unfortunately, with our limited storage space in our house as a whole, this is too much of an inconvenience not to note.Keeping in mind that I purchased this on sale, I have felt that it was worth it. We use it often and it saves quite a bit of time from meal-planning to meal-prepping across the board. We knew we needed the bigger size for a family of four, and the air fryer feature just happened to come with. If I were buying full price, I’d just go with the stand-alone instant pot. We don’t use the air fryer often, but that’s just our family. That may change down the road, but for now, the additional space it takes up is more inconvenience than benefit.I LOVE the product! It's the color I wanted and has a screen protector as well as a bumper around it to keep the tablet safe. It also has the hand strap, the neck strap, a stand to keep the tablet up in any direction, and last but definitely NOT least it's got an elastic fabric band on the hand strap to hold the pen if you have one! I do and it took me a while to find the band that holds the pen. It also comes with an extra front piece that doesn't have a screen protector for those who don't want one. It arrived days in advance of the promised delivery! And something yhat really made me HAPPY, is the delivery driver came to the door, rang the bell and waited for us to answer and take arrival of item!!!! The other delivery companies just drop it and leave. This made me so much HAPPIER knowing it wouldn't and couldn't be stolen! Thanks so much to UNLPOWER.
