I previously purchased the grey ‘checking use’ version that Pentel sell and got this to see the difference. Fundamentally it’s the same design. The only difference is that the shaft is clearer so it is easier to see the coloured leads.The product is similar to those 8-in-1 colour ballpoint pens you might see for cheap, but you are able to use broad strokes as well as pointed marks, and you have more control on the pressure of the marks you put down. It is very convenient as a sketching tool, as you don’t need to carry so many coloured pencils with you. What’s even better is that because the included wax leads are 2mm in diameter and replaceable, you can fit other branded 2mm leads as well, as long as you snap those leads to size. I’ve tested this with Koh-I-Noor coloured leads and some Earth coloured leads I’ve found on Amazon, and they work effectively. The only thing I haven’t tried is 2mm graphite (Faber Castell in particular), but I’m confident they’ll work as well.The product works like a clutch pencil, in which you hold down the button to expose the lead by gravity, and letting go locks the lead in place. Make sure you have your hand held the other end though, as the lead might fall out if you’re not careful!Keep in mind, when one piece of lead gets very short, it may have a tendency to stick around unintentionally, so be prepared to shake it out if necessary so you can use the other leads.
